Egg prices in Turkey are driven to a large extent by the country's currency. Chronic inflation in the lira — running far above levels seen anywhere in Europe — pushes the nominal price of a carton steadily higher in Turkish supermarkets, even during stretches when the dollar price barely moves. Viewed in US dollars, as on this page, much of that noise is filtered out; viewed in lira, the figures explain why eggs continue to appear in Turkish cost-of-living headlines.

Beneath the currency volatility sits one of the world's more capable egg industries. Turkey is a major producer and a significant exporter — Iraq has long been its dominant market — and when avian influenza gutted American flocks in 2025, Turkish exporters were among those shipping eggs across the Atlantic to plug the gap.

Feed remains the industry's soft spot: Turkey imports much of its corn and soy, paying in hard currency while selling most of its eggs in lira, a squeeze that tightens every time the currency slides.
