Egg prices in Turkey are driven to a large extent by the country's currency. Chronic inflation in the lira — running far above levels seen anywhere in Europe — pushes the nominal price of a carton steadily higher in Turkish supermarkets, even during stretches when the dollar price barely moves. Viewed in US dollars, as on this page, much of that noise is filtered out; viewed in lira, the figures explain why eggs continue to appear in Turkish cost-of-living headlines.

Beneath the currency volatility sits one of the world's more capable egg industries. Turkey is a major producer and a significant exporter — Iraq has long been its dominant market — and when avian influenza gutted American flocks in 2025, Turkish exporters were among those shipping eggs across the Atlantic to plug the gap.

Feed remains the industry's soft spot: Turkey imports much of its corn and soy, paying in hard currency while selling most of its eggs in lira, a squeeze that tightens every time the currency slides. The figure shown here reflects prices observed daily at Migros Türkiye, one of the country's largest grocery chains; the purchasing-power widget uses the net monthly minimum wage converted to an hourly rate.

Our daily tracking at Migros Türkiye began in mid-June 2026. In lira terms, the tracked price has moved within a wide band: the monthly median dipped from about ₺69.95 per 10 eggs in June 2026 to ₺66.21 in July, then rose to ₺73.71 in August and September and to ₺77.47 in October. Daily readings over the period ranged from roughly ₺56.33 to ₺80.97, and the latest reading, as of late October 2026, was the period high of ₺80.97. Because the series comes from a single retailer, some of the short-term swings may reflect promotions or pack changes, so it is best read as a shelf-level signal rather than a national average.

Production is also geographically concentrated. The central-western province of Afyonkarahisar is widely regarded as the heart of the Turkish egg industry and is home to a large share of the country's laying hens. Most output comes from large, cage-based commercial farms rather than backyard flocks, which allows the sector to scale up quickly for export markets. That export orientation cuts both ways for domestic shoppers: strong foreign demand can support local prices, while periods of weaker exports can leave more eggs on the home market.
