In Bangladesh, the egg is the cheapest animal protein most families can buy, which makes its price a genuinely political number. The industry has grown rapidly but remains fragile. It depends heavily on imported feed ingredients and day-old chicks, so currency depreciation and global grain prices pass straight through to the farm gate. Production is dominated by small and medium farms around Dhaka, Gazipur and Tangail, many of them contract growers for large feed-and-poultry conglomerates.
